Frequently Asked Question's
This was part of a featured story about "moving" and has appeared in Cranberry Coast
Homes section of the Old Colony Memorial. The answers do pertain to Magnum Moving & Storage.
Q. How far in advance should people hire a mover?
A. A mover should be chosen at least a few months before the desired date that you would like to move.
This helps guarantee the date that you want, and the efficiency of a great move for the customer and the mover.
Q. What are the moving options available? Renting a truck and moving things yourself? Hiring a mover along with a truck?
A. You can choose to move yourself
or hire a mover. We would recommend hiring a mover
because it provides you with a stress free, efficient
move with no damage, professional staff, and carrier
liability on your items.
Q. When hiring a mover, does that include packing? And if so, would that include packing everything or just the bigger items?
A. A mover can provide the packing on the entire list of items to move or can provide a partial pack. When the mover packs,
carrier liability is on the items that are packed. If you are looking to save money, the movers can pack the fragile items and the
customer can pack all other items. Traditionally on a local move they hourly charges are for unloading and loading of the goods
(plus travel time). With Magnum Moving, we charge by the boxes we pack not a charge per hour.
Q. Does a mover provide boxes?
A. A good mover will have all size
boxes in stock for sale. Some moving companies
offer used boxes for half price, or some movers
like Magnum, provide free used boxes for incoming
storage customers and can even offer free paper
and tape when we pack.
Q. If a person is doing the move himself, where would you recommend people purchasing boxes?
A. This is a personal preference to each customer. To save money you can ask grocery stores or liquor stores for used boxes,
but we would suggest buying them from a moving company. You want to make sure your boxes can close and will not have pests or
mildew on them. Buying them from a moving company would ensure that the boxes you are buying are top quality and were specially
designed to hold household goods.
Q. What are some storage options available?
A. There are many types of storage; outside self storage, inside temperate or climate controlled storage (inside a warehouse),
pods, trailers or containers that can be left on your lot. Here at Magnum we offer two types of storage:
1. SELF STORAGE - the carrier holds no liability, and there is no guarantee that your goods would come out of storage
as they went into storage due to the temperature, humidity and weather. Self Storage would be recommended if you do not
need to store any wood or cloth items.
2. CONTAINERIZED STORAGE - is temperate of climate controlled in a warehouse, and the carrier holds the liability.
Being on Cape Cod, we would suggest containerized storage due to the unexpected weather. Also containerized storage has
added safety: the items are packed by a licensed and bonded warehouseman into a vault or containers, the container is
kept in a pest-free, secure warehouse. No matter what storage you chose, we strongly suggest that you tour the facility.
Q. Do you rent PODS, and if so, how does this work?
A. We do not rent pods. I do believe the information can be found in the yellow pages or online.
Q. If a person is renting just the truck (not a mover) is that person covered in case of an accident?
A. We do not rent out our trucks without a moving staff. If you want a stress free, organized, professional
move we would recommend having a moving company relocate you. We would suggest getting three estimates
(comparisons for three different moving companies) before you decide on you mover. Please keep in mind that
they should be licensed, bonded and insured.
Q. What happens if movers damage an items?
A. The item is repaired or replaced up to the amount that the customer has chosen on the carrier liability
(valuation) they choose. Valuation is the value placed on their goods as a whole.
Q. Moving day is very stressful. Any tips on eliminating some of that stress on moving day?
A. Make sure you give your mover or sales agent all your thoughts, concerns, questions and most of all,
the changes that you have. Even if you need to change the details a dozen times. A mover can make your move
more stress free when he knows all the information. We would recommend going with a moving company that has
been in business for a number of years and has a good record with the BBB. This insures quality customer service
from start to finish.
